How To Hire A Health And Wellness Copywriter Without Stress

There are several Copywriters. Some are generalists, others are specialists. Whether one is better than the other, I cannot say. What I do know is that if you are a business that operates in the health and wellness space, you better hire a health and wellness copywriter.

Who Is A Health and Wellness Copywriter?

A health and wellness copywriter is someone who helps brands in the health space to produce persuasive content or copy that helps sell their products and services better.

Joseph Olu is a health and wellness copywriter who’s well versed in the art and science of SEO Copywriting — a branch of digital marketing that combines search engine optimization with conversion copywriting to deliver content that attracts marketing and sales qualified leads organically.

Almost anyone can parade themselves as a health and wellness copywriter, but you have to be on the lookout for the goats in unicorn clothing.

Who Are The Goats In Unicorn Clothing?

These are those who are only interested in satisfying the longings of their throat (like a goat) but not interested in the growth and success of your business.

Their reason for staying in this lane is solely to make money, not because they low what they’re doing. And as soon as they get your money, they don’t care whether or not you make it back.

These are the same people that falsify testimonials, claim to have published on many publications but have no proof, claim to know how the web works but their website isn’t mobile responsive, claim to know SEO but are only concerned about turning Yoast’s and Rank Math’s SEO button to green, claim to have mastered the art of persuasion but all they can do is say ‘please’ and smear your content with adverbs and awkward cliches.

You’d feel it somewhere in the corner of your heart that something is wrong with what they claim versus what you see; don’t ignore that feeling, for it’s telling you: “this is not the unicorn!”

What Does A Health And Wellness Copywriter Do?

Though the definition says a health and wellness copywriter produces persuasive copy for brands and businesses in the health space, we do more than just produce copy. But mostly, it also depends on who you hire and why you hire them.

For instance, some copywriters (like me) are expert content marketers, and that requires a deep knowledge of the web and SEO tactics and best practices. So these copywriters can help you develop and execute a content marketing strategy to help generate leads for your business organically, i.e, from the search engines.

However, at the heart of everything a copywriter does is persuasion — to help whoever comes in contact with your product fall in love instantly.

Which Services Does Health And Wellness Copywriters Offer?

Several services fall under the copywriting umbrella, but the most popular ones include:

  • Website copy
  • Website copy audits
  • Landing page copy
  • Sales page copy
  • Product description copy
  • PPC ads copy
  • Direct response copy
  • Email newsletter series
  • Sales letters; etc

A copywriter may offer one or more of these services; it depends on the workload they can handle.

How Much Does A Health And Wellness Copywriter Charge?

How it costs to hire a health copywriter depends on which service(s) you require and their experience. Well, really, it depends on how much the copywriter will settle with for a project, and the two factors above often decide that.

Basically, though, a copywriter may charge between these ranges:

  1. Homepage copy: $450 – $4,000
  2. Landing page copy: $450 – $1,000
  3. Sales Page copy: $450 – $10,000
  4. Subscription page: $450 – $4,500
  5. PPC ads copy: $25 – $250 per ad
  6. Small website copy: $1,500 – $3,500
  7. Small website SEO copy: $1,750 – $4,000
  8. Build editorial calendar: $1,000 to $5,000
  9. Full PPC campaign: $1,000 to $2,500 (ad, landing pages, and thank you page)
  10. Short sales email: $250 – $2,000
  11. Long sales email: $750 – $3,500

There are other copywriting services with different price ranges, but I’d rather stop here. Know that these fees are nothing but speculation, and they may go higher or lower depending on the Copywriter you’re working with.

How To Hire A Health And Wellness Copywriter

Follow these steps to hire a health and wellness copywriter:

1. Know what you want

It’s always good if you know what you want before reaching out to a copywriter. Your goal could be subscriptions to your newsletters, more purchases on your products or services, brand awareness, ranking on search engines, anything. Just have a desired outcome.

But even if you don’t know what you want to be done but know you need help with sales, reach out. A professional Copywriter can take a deep dive into your market and help you figure things out. Though that may attract a little consultation fee.

2. Look for copywriters

Many business owners and people who work with freelance copywriters like to check out several Copywriters and then hire one or two, depending on their needs. That’s an excellent strategy.

You can either search Google for copywriters in your niche (as in “health and wellness copywriter” as your search phrase) or search LinkedIn. But verify whoever you want to hire to make sure they aren’t a scam.

3. Reach out

Once you have a list of Copywriters, reach out to them to discuss your project and make sure you’re looking out for one who could be a good fit for you. You can ask for work samples, experience proof, certifications, etc. Also ask about their pricing.

To make this stage easier for you, you can reach out to them one after the other till you find a promising Copywriter; you don’t have to talk to every copywriter you find on the internet.

4. Sign contract

From the previous stage, you should have found one you presume has the potential to help grow your business. The next thing would be for you to enter an agreement with one another.

The Copywriter will send you their proposal, which will clearly state:

— the tasks to be completed
— project time to completion
— project cost
— payment terms
— both parties’ rights; etc

Go through the proposal and if you’re not satisfied with some terms in there, talk it through with the copywriter to see whether you can reach a common ground. If not, proceed with your search process.

Optionally, you can also send your own terms and conditions for the writer to sign. This isn’t necessary, since you both read and agreed on the proposal sent by the Copywriter. But if your company culture requires the contractor to sign an agreement from you too, send it over.

If the Copywriter agrees to your terms, you’ll both sign their proposal and your contract. Make sure you’ve both agreed on the terms from both sides before appending signatures, though.

5. Proceed with the line of action as stated in the proposal

In the writer’s proposal, they’d have highlighted the next line of action towards completing your project. This may involve you having to send a percentage of the agreed funds or the Copywriter delivering in chunks while you pay for each chunk.

Anyway, the action starts here.

There’s a multitude of reasons why you may need to hire a health copywriter. Not gonna lie, a Copywriter probably knows more than you do about your market. You will, however, know more about your product than they do. Hire Copywriters to help you market that great product to your market the right way without selling anybody’s soul to the fire-skinned-monster that rides a bike.
